Mary Ellen Roberts, DNP, APN, FAANP, FAAN, is a certified Adult and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

Dr. Roberts began her teaching career in the early 90’s as an Assistant Professor at Seton Hall School of Nursing. She returned to Seton Hall as a Professor in 2011.

Dr. Roberts holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of Iowa. She brings over 30 years of nursing experience and has maintained a practice in cardiovascular and primary care of the adult and aged since 1990.

Dr. Roberts is nationally known for her work with Nurse Practitioners (NPs) to expand the scope of practice for nurse practitioners in her role as President of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Roberts’ legacy as a leader in NP professional organizations includes shaping the DNP, and her seminal AANP white paper in favor of the DNP degree continues to serve as the voice for over 150,000 NPs. She continues to advocate for the DNP, and her many invited presentations to interdisciplinary groups on important topics in primary and specialty care indicates her widespread influence.

Dr. Roberts serves on the Board of Commissioners for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program and as treasurer of the AANP Political Action Committee in addition to her many committee appointments. Dr. Roberts is a Fellow with the American Academy of Nursing and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, both of which are nursing’s highest honor.
